It all ends tonight

In a matter of hours, I will be watching the final Harry Potter movie. This is a very big deal.

Bedecked in my green tie and white collared shirt, It's strange to think that this all started when I was six in 1997. Harry Potter has become an almost sixth sense thing where all of my memories have some Harry Potter referenced item. Some of the favorites involve it.

When the first movie came out, I was in fourth grade. My whole class was very into it and we all decided to cast one another in different characters in the movie. Of course we had multiple Harrys, Hermoines, and Rons. We would reenact scenes from the movie during lunch or whenever we had a break. That same year, all of the kids had read the fourth book and did book reports on it.

Now, ten years later, some of us might be going to the midnight premiere and some it may have been a one time thing. It's so strange that Harry Potter has managed to exist for so long and how much things have changed since the first book came out.

We have gone through three presidents, entered a war, seen the economy boom and fail, experienced new technology, watched countries fall apart from natural diastors and war, seen the death of one of the large terrorists of the 1990s, and experienced climate change.

More personally we've graduated middle school and high school, become adults, experienced pain and excitement, and most importantly found a way to decide who we are. Harry potter has been there for all for this.

As JK Rowling said, "Weather you come back by page or screen, Hogwarts will always welcome you home."

Now here's to my childhood, May Harry Potter always be The Boy That Lived.

I mean, The Crucible!!! I've wanted to be in that play since I was a sophomore in high school when I first read it. When I found out, I began screaming so loud that I'm sure the neighbors thought that I was being murdered.

Now I just need to get working on my audition items and I still don't know what they want so I have a little leeway with that.

Now I'm super excited to go back to Catholic for next year. Especially because I'm taking a class about Molière!

Today is a great day. Except for the fact that I almost made myself sick with the exercising I tried today. Not a great confidence booster.

As the years go by, our friendship will never die

Hey everyone!

Happy belated fourth of July! My family went and enjoyed the wonderful beauty of Lake Tahoe (which translates as "big water". Original, isn't it?)for the holiday weekend. I got to spend a lot of time with my four year old cousin Maura Rose (who I call Rosie). Hanging with her and my job at the theater camp got me to thinking about my childhood versus theirs.

For example, last week at camp, the younger kids (who can be a total nightmare sometimes) were doing Toy Story as their mini-musical. All of the kids knew what it was and were vaguely familiar with most of the movies. For me, the whole week was like a throw-back to childhood. I am basically the same age as Andy was and grew up with the movies. I cried my eyes out in the last one because it spoke to exactly how I was feeling about college. Most of these kids will never feel that way about Toy Story but will find this feeling in something else. Another movie/ book series I feel this way about is Harry Potter. As would be expected.

Another thing that completely throws me is when some of the kids tell me about how they have iPods and email and yet they haven't even entered fifth grade. Technology is so much more advanced then it was even five years ago. Case in point would be when I found my old elementary school computer games. When I tried to replay them again yesterday, the software was too old to be used. That depressed me. I remember pining for a Walkman when entering fifth grade because that was the "cool" new technology. Now I rarely use CDs.

At the same time, I am far too young to be entering the old grandpa, "kids these days" rant because I really haven't seen anything. Maybe I just feel this way because I've always been like an old grandpa with my choice in music and movies and clothes.

But things can still be the same. Rosie marvels over the amazing The Sound of Music the same way I did and plays with dolls (named Rose's Baby, nothing else) the way I did. The kids at camp still crave to be in the now like I did with this one last wonderful thing from my childhood:

Sorry I've been so AWOL over the last month. The summer months are rather dull and I didn't want this blog to turn into a "had an OK day but got a Coke Zero at the gas station. Raise the Roof!" sort of situation (anyone catch the reference?).

Oh and my employee discount card arrived today so I'm super excited to get Gap Inc. discounts.

Hey all!

Guess What?

I got a job at the Gap a few days ago. Yeah! I've had two days of work and have been doing my training as well. It's fun and I get a pretty awesome discount at the Gap and it's fellow stores like Banana Republic. Now I have three summer jobs (even though one of them is really seasonal) so lots of money this summer!

The weather here has sucked the last few weeks because it has been raining non-stop. My work tomorrow at the Mountain Play even got cancelled tomorrow because there is supposed to be Lightning. That's great.

Anyway, I just wanted to keep up guys up to date on my summer doings. But there really is not a whole lot going on.

I just want the sun to come out so I can wear shorts and dresses.

Taking care of business

Hi!

So I've been home now for about two weeks and find that life back in Mill Valley is, for lack of a better word, dull. Compared to DC, there is no Metro and our little town just doesn't measure up. Well anyway, enough about that.

I've been searching for a third job to have this summer because I have nothing to do for the month of May because my real summer job doesn't start until June 13th. This search is not proving to be all that easy but hopefully, I'll get something out of it.

I've visited CTE a few times since I've been back and it was a little weird because I finally realized that I'm out of the loop on a whole lot of things because I'm no longer an active member. Anyway, I have my new department to feel connected in (well, hardly new considering I've been there a year).

We are still waiting to hear what the 2011-2012 season is going to be for CUADrama next year and it is nerve-racking. I want to start working on monologues right away. I want to get cast a lot this year. But we will see what happens.

Anyway, that's been my life so far. It's really not all that interesting right now, hence why I haven't blogged in a few weeks.

Hopefully it will liven up soon.

Hello Everyone!

FRESHMEN YEAR IS OVER!!!! I had my last final today at eight in the morning and now I'm sitting in my dorm attempting to pack everything up, which is going well. I'm leaving campus at one today and then I'm back to the Bay on Monday.

I can't believe how fast time went. It seems like yesterday that I was moving in. And in a blink of an eye, all my stuff is in garbage bags awaiting it's stay at our family friend's house. It makes me so sad. I love my college and I'm not ready to say goodbye to all of my crazy and wonderful drama kids. But I will see them in four months which will be great.

And I'm going to miss Washington DC so much. It is a great city and I have loved getting to know it. I love the fact that I can go see amazing art and the amazing museums and eat Chop't whenever I want. There are no Chop't on the West Coast, it is such a tragedy. How will I get my fix?

But home will be nice as well. I look forward to sleeping in my own bed and not worrying about RAs and annoying neighbors. At least next year, I will have my own room which I can decorate however I want. I'm thinking lots of posters, especially from The Departed.

This year has been great because it has made me be content with who I am and now I don't care what anyone thinks. Thank you Catholic University for that!

Osama Bin Laden is dead!

I was at a Drama party tonight when it was announced that he died. Having lived overseas for nine years, the Expat part of me is jumping up and down cheering at the top of my lungs. He terrorized us when we lived in Asia. Any Expat could tell you that.

But the rational part of me is saying that it's weird to be celebrating his death. He died in a violent way and it's almost creepy that America is throwing a huge party about it.

But the world is safer for now!!!

And Pope John Paul was beatified today! I loved him so much. He was such a great pope, he deserves to be a saint.

And Gilbie's, CUA Drama's end of the year awards ceremony was tonight and it was awesome!!! My Freshmen Drama career is complete!! Yeah!!

Now it's onto the studying and the finals!!!

At least the Al Qaeda leader is gone. The world can be safe.
