Hey everyone!
So Tartuffe (which I am on costume crew for) opened tonight and it was a riotous and wonderful show. Everyone in the DC area should come and see the show. It's so amazing.
It is pouring rain here and is so heavy that it is ridiculous. Why is weather so strange?
Life is going well in DC right now. I have a lot of work for all of my classes but this semester is just flying by. I can't believe that it is already the middle of October. Oh and on November 6th, I'm going to see Othello at the Folger Theater with friends. I'm so excited because I've never seen anything at the Folger before and have always wanted to. It is the largest Shakespeare library in America. And I've booked my flight home for Christmas. Good Lord, where has the time gone?
Well I just wanted to keep you guys up to date on my life is which is going by in a whirlwind. But before I go, here is a hilarious video that hails from my mother's hometown of Sacramento, California.

Some things, well, I can't refuse
Hey Everyone!
Sorry I've been MIA for so long. Things come up and life goes on.
October has settled in DC really quickly with some nice ice-cold rain and temperatures. But I love it because at least it's not exceptionally humid like it had been. I'm chilling in my bed right now because it is so wonderfully comfortable.
Interesting things have been going on at Catholic. Early Friday morning at 1:30, the campus was put on lockdown because there had been sightings of a man with a gun who turned out to be a cop. It made for an interesting and rather chaotic night. Then I participated in a one-act reading for one of the MFA playwrights which was a great experience.
And then yesterday, I experienced a wonderful thing. Martin Sheen came to campus and talked about his new movie called The Way. I loved him in The Departed and was super excited to hear him talk. He is extremely charismatic (because he's an actor) and very religious and had a lot of interesting things to say about activism and how he picked the name Martin Sheen. At one point, I was about five feet away from him. It was awesome. On a side note, he is very short.
Now the stress of all my classes is kind of caving in one me but I am managing to wade through it all. My topics paper is going to be the death of me because it is a semester long thing that involves proposals and drafts and is ten pages. Fun. But I'll get through it.
I'm also on costume crew for Tartuffe. A year ago, I was doing the same thing! But now I know the whole process and I am very excited to do it. I'm almost done with my hours and heres hoping that I will knock them out of the way with this crew. If you live in the DC area, come and see the show. It will be amazing and starts on October 13th.
Now I'm going to make myself a cup of tea and enjoy the wonderful music on my itunes. The Rolling Stones and The Beatles have become the music that makes me most happy.

For those we've loved and lost
Ten years ago, a nine year old sat in her living room in Singapore and watched as the World Trade Center collapsed. I didn't understand what was happening but all I knew was that it was a very bad thing. I didn't go to school the next day and spent the two years I lived in Singapore learning all about terrorism and its atrocities. There is nothing like realizing at the age of nine that your country of origin is far from perfect and that most countries hate it.
A few weeks later, Singapore held a memorial service for the victims of the attacks. Over half of the audience was Muslim men and women who were there to pay their respects. George Bush ruined that when we entered the war.
Now as I watched clips from the memorial service this morning, I began to cry because I finally understood what had happened.
In fifth grade, I remember distinctly that I said that instead of building a new building in the place of the twin towers, that there should be a park built as a memorial to the victims. It's as though the city of New York listened to me. The memorial looks beautiful and I'm glad that they chose to go with a classy and thoughtful remembrance of the people and the towers.
May no other children experience such pain and horrors in the future. May Obama realize that the war in the Middle East is pointless. May the victim's families feel happiness again and may the United States grow stronger from this.
There are many ways to recount our memories of this and I find this one to the the best.
God Bless the victims.

Your mother should know
Hey everyone!
So I just decided to take a video of my room so that all the family members could see the splendor of my single. I just realized that I could do that with my iphone. Quite wonderful.
Stress is hitting me like a large train because of my classes but tomorrow is Friday!!! Major excitement. And I just ordered a 3 foot by 5 foot Irish flag for our dorm room for, get this, one cent! So amazing.
Now here is the promised video.

And here's to you
Hello!
Happy Labor Day weekend everyone!
So I just finished my first week of classes for sophomore year! This week felt incredibly long like each day itself was a week. My classes are bound to be challenging but they are not going to be as bad as I feared on the first day of each. My classes are definitely going to be interesting. I hope this semester goes well.
Washington DC has recovered from it's ridiculous weather problems of last week and hopefully that tornado watch does not go into effect. I'd rather not feel like I'm living in Kansas.
Fall shows are coming up and some of best friends here at Catholic got cast in Tartuffe! Sammi Smedley is play Mariane (first 2014 girl to be cast in a mainstage!), Brenden McMahon is the police officer, and Amy Horan is Filpote. I am incredibly happy for them and am hoping I can finish my tech hours my doing costume crew on that show.
My dorm this year is super nice. I'm living in Opus Hall which was built in 2008 and is the environmentally friendly building on campus. I have a single in a suite of five girls and the room itself is accualty pretty big. My roommates are all really nice and chill and similar to me so I don't have to worry about any differing ideas like last year. I'll post pictures/ take them when I get my new posters to put up.
Today, I'm going down to the Kennedy Center for Page to Stage which is an event involving new playwrights and such. Two of our playwrights are doing readings so I'm heading down their today to hear their shows and support the people reading them. I'm excited.
Well here's to a good semester!

Smoke gets in your eyes
Having worked at the Gap all summer, I am privy to certain information that is equally boring and really exciting. One of the more interesting ones is Banana Republic's Mad Men Collection. Created with the Costume designer from the show, the collection is equally modern and very 1960s. I love some of the items so much.
I think I found myself a nice new summer/ audition dress, because my summer really does not start until I get back to DC where it's hot. I've had to wear flannel to work at camp the last few weeks because it's been foggy and cold.
Here are some of the awesome clothes. Hello, employee discount. Also, this acts as a distraction from the fact that the show is not returning until 2012. SADNESS!!! But at least Boardwalk Empire is returning soon.
Here are the wonderful, wonderful clothes:
Maybe I'll buy these later this week. Tomorrow, the kids have their show and it will be adorable. I'm excited.

It all ends tonight
In a matter of hours, I will be watching the final Harry Potter movie. This is a very big deal.
Bedecked in my green tie and white collared shirt, It's strange to think that this all started when I was six in 1997. Harry Potter has become an almost sixth sense thing where all of my memories have some Harry Potter referenced item. Some of the favorites involve it.
When the first movie came out, I was in fourth grade. My whole class was very into it and we all decided to cast one another in different characters in the movie. Of course we had multiple Harrys, Hermoines, and Rons. We would reenact scenes from the movie during lunch or whenever we had a break. That same year, all of the kids had read the fourth book and did book reports on it.
Now, ten years later, some of us might be going to the midnight premiere and some it may have been a one time thing. It's so strange that Harry Potter has managed to exist for so long and how much things have changed since the first book came out.
We have gone through three presidents, entered a war, seen the economy boom and fail, experienced new technology, watched countries fall apart from natural diastors and war, seen the death of one of the large terrorists of the 1990s, and experienced climate change.
More personally we've graduated middle school and high school, become adults, experienced pain and excitement, and most importantly found a way to decide who we are. Harry potter has been there for all for this.
As JK Rowling said, "Weather you come back by page or screen, Hogwarts will always welcome you home."
Now here's to my childhood, May Harry Potter always be The Boy That Lived.
Let the tears ensue.
Bye-bye!

Another Opening, Another Show
The 2011-2012 season has been announced at Catholic University!!
I'm dying. Here is the list of plays and their dates:
Tartuffe
By Molière
Translated by Richard Wilbur
October 13th – 16th
The Language of Infinity
By Rachel K Barclay (MFA Playwright)
November 17th – 20th
In REP (February 16th – 26th)
Alien Invader
By Frank DiSalvo Jr (MFA Playwright)
The Mystery Plays
By Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
The Crucible
By Arthur Miller
April 19th – 22nd
I mean, The Crucible!!! I've wanted to be in that play since I was a sophomore in high school when I first read it. When I found out, I began screaming so loud that I'm sure the neighbors thought that I was being murdered.
Now I just need to get working on my audition items and I still don't know what they want so I have a little leeway with that.
Now I'm super excited to go back to Catholic for next year. Especially because I'm taking a class about Molière!
Today is a great day. Except for the fact that I almost made myself sick with the exercising I tried today. Not a great confidence booster.
Enjoy our day!
